DIALÉCTICAS URBANAS, ALEGORÍAS SOBRE CARACAS - 2003

 

 

This ‘urban poetry’ works on the city of Caracas. The Urban Think Tank shot a film of the development of its different forms in temporal succession, of the perspective of a flâneur, who is approaching the fascinating city on food, by car and by helicopter and plane. Instead of being a celebration of metropolitan life, the film Diálectica Urbana - Allegorias sobre Caracas seeks to create new discursive spaces in order to raise questions about how cities are shaped and for whom. This documentary is a visualization of the writings of the Urban Think Tank on Caracas, in particular writings on the explosion of Barrios around the periphery of the ‘formal’ city. It shows the flâneur visiting among other places the Barrios Mari Perez or El Club San Augustin where the narrative of the city is being derived through conversations with those who actually live, and cultivate, the specific space that is being explored. By shifting constantly between Caracas and Berlin, Miami and New York alludes to the idea how culture and values transform communities and spaces to a particular place.
