GERMAN CULTURAL FOUNDATION - CARACAS CASE AND THE CULTURE OF THE INFORMAL CITY: WORKSHOP
Caracas, Venezuela
The Caracas Case studies the deep-rooted changes of urban realities in Venezuela’s capital city, which is visible in the explosive growth of mega cities. Twenty invited specialists from fifteen countries participated as associates and consultants, envisioning pioneering ideas for the city, intending a closer exchange of experiences between cities and citizens, professionals and academia, city authorities and NGOs involved in urban issues. This venture is a pilot project for the understanding of alternative design ideas concerning realities beyond urban planning and infrastructure in cities. Since traditional planning methods have been largely incapable of addressing the needs of the citizens on an appropriate bandwidth, the Urban-Think Tank explores a different method of planning that is able to take on challenges from the scale of a house to a whole neighborhood. The research team identifies and proposes design strategies for the contemporary city where public values must be guided to produce a heterogeneous, city life for all inhabitants.
