U-TT OPENS NEW EMPOWER SHACK EXHIBITIONS

U-TT, along with partner NGO, Ikhayalami, have opened two new exhibitions for the Empower Shack project. One exhibition in Cape Town City Hall with the Afrian Center for Cities and another at the Architekur.14 Exhibition in Zürich.

U-TT: Runners-Up in Zumtobel Group Award 2014

U-TT are the runners-up for the 2014 Zumtobel Award. Nominated for the Vertical Gymnasium in Santa Cruz Del Este, the project was praised for its efficient use of space to bring needed recreational and social opportunities for Caracaqueños.

New Vertical Gym Project

U-TT's latest project, Vertical Gym El Dorado, in Barrio Petare of Caracas, Venezuela, is complete. The gym opened on August 10th, and will be serving up to 1,000 people daily, free of charge. It is the biggest version of U-TT's Vertical Gym typology yet.

UPCOMING EVENT: U-TT Chair at ETH Spring Event in Hardbruecke, Zurich

This coming Thursday, May 12, the U-TT chair will have its Spring Event at Hardbruecke, Zurich, near to Rösli Bar (Geroldstrasse 35). It will start at 7.00 pm with an introduction given by Alfredo Brillembourg and Hubert Klumpner, about the "Democratization of the City". The presentation is also related to the chair's elective course "ACTION! in the real city", where students are actively analyzing and transforming existing spaces around Hardbruecke with small scale interventions and actions. After the presentation we plan to have an open discussion with the audience.

LA China (Landscape Architecture) recently wrote an article on U-TT in their April issue published out of Beijing. The article focuses on the Caracas Metro Cable project but pays special attention to how the infrastructural development has impacts the environmental and social ecology of the San Agustin slum as a whole.

The Swedish Association of Architect has honored Urban-Think Tank with the Ralph Erskine Award for their innovation in architecture and urban design with regard to social, ecological and aesthetic aspects. The award ceremony will take place in Stockholm on November 19th at 12:45.
